What is MooShim Tae Kwon Do?
MooShim is a traditional Tae Kwon Do school that observes the
practice of poomsae (forms), ho sin sool (self-defense), kyorugi
(sparring) and meditation. Training at MooShim is not only a physical
practice but is also a philosophical approach to daily life. We
celebrate openness and sharing, seeking to embrace the larger Tae
Kwon Do community, continually committed to the pursuit of
What does MooShim mean?
MooShim means No Mind or Empty Mind. Emptying one’s mind can
seem an impossible task, but with training, you can learn to
consistently bring awareness to the present. This “being in the
moment” is essential to martial arts training. If you come into class
with a full mind, how can you learn anything new? Through
meditation and focusing exercises, you can train your mind to be quiet
and peaceful, so that you can be open to all that is in your present
moment. There is a gap between formal blocking and striking
movements and the actual employment of those blocks and strikes
when needed. At MooShim, we bridge this gap. We train consciously
to react unconsciously. That is MooShim, that is No Mind!
